Why Do an In-Home Newborn Session?
Buffalo, NY
To the parents-to-be (whether it’s your first, 2nd, 3rd or more): Having a newborn is amazing, life-changing, and let's face it - hard! Those early days when you first bring your baby home usually end up being a total blur. Getting ready for a photo session might be the last thing you feel like doing - and that's why doing them in your home is so nice. You don't have to pack up a bunch of different items just to leave your house. If the baby spits up? No worries, you have access to a change of clothes. Do you have other children? They can go off and play once we're done with their photos. If they want to come back and join again, that’s fine too. The baby spends most of his/her time in Mom or Dad's arms and we don't have to worry about trying to keep them sleepy - we can let the baby lead the session and do what feels right for your family. A simple white onesie and a swaddle blanket or two for the baby is really all you need. I like to keep things simple and focused on the baby and capturing this new transition in your lives.
Another thing I want to mention because I have heard people say this several times and also thought it myself: "I do not have time to clean up my house to make it photo session ready." Please don't. We can easily move items if needed to get them out of the frame. The only thing I will say is since I frequently use either the master bedroom, nursery, or family room for photos, is to clear any random items off end tables IF you have time beforehand (bottles, glasses, hair ties, phone chargers). Other than that, clean nothing. If you've seen any of my stories or photos of my own house, you'll know that a messy house doesn't bother me one bit. You have enough to do with caring for a newborn and adjusting to your new normal.
In-home newborn shoots are so intimate and having memories to look back on and really remember what that time felt like is so valuable. I will say that I did not get photos done when I had either of my sons and I really regret that. Even though it was crazy at the time and photos were honestly one of the last things on my mind, I wish I had gotten them to remember that incredibly brief, but special period in our lives. If you’re interested in booking an in-home newborn session with me, please contact me. Best of luck with your new baby!
