Why Invest in Family Photos?
If you’re anything like me, you’re busy. Your days are jam-packed, and you can’t remember anything unless you either A) do it immediately or B) write it down and set a reminder in your phone. You might follow a budget and are careful with how and when to spend your money. Family photos might be something you’d LIKE to get done, but between everything else going on, might just not be that high on your radar right now. You can’t be bothered putting photo ready outfits together because, let’s face it, you might just wear leggings a majority of the time. I basically live in leggings and the second I put jeans on, my children ask me, “Mama, where are you going?” That is me. I actually take family photos for people and you’d think it WOULD be something I think about, but I only got my own family’s done this year because a good friend of mine who is a talented photographer had the idea that we should do photos for each other (and thank goodness she did because I am thrilled that we now have them).
So why get them done? Because, as busy as we all are, I strongly believe that it’s so important to capture you and your family as you are right now, especially as time goes on. It doesn’t matter if your outfit isn’t perfect, it doesn’t matter if your kids are running all over the place in a fit of glee - actually I welcome that. I love the little moments and special connections between loved ones. I look at old photos of my grandparents, parents, me and my brothers/cousins when we were little, and now my own kids and I’m amazed at how things used to be and how quickly it has all gone by. There is one from my grandparents’ wedding – they are dancing and my grandmother is beaming at the camera and my grandfather is looking at her - he looks so happy. A lot of their bridal party is in the photo; they are all young and vibrant. I (obviously) wasn’t there for that moment, but I can feel it when I look at the photo.
I printed pictures of my kids from summer this year and I was looking at them today and they already look older to me. Little things, like how long my younger son’s hair was and how it curled at the ends, the little smirk on my older son’s face, the two of them in the fort they built together – it’s all stuff I probably wouldn’t even remember had they not been photographed, but I’m glad they were.
Anyway. I’ve gone and gotten all sentimental on everyone. But long story short and point being - you should get the photos. Your family is worth it, you’re worth it, and I don’t think you’ll regret it.
